The upload service
The screenshot upload is an experimental feature. It sends the image to Shottr.cc cloud and gets the public url copied to the clipboard. The uploaded screenshot looks like this: https://shottr.cc/s/Atja/SCR-20220718-fna
Access token
To use the feature you need a token, a security precaution to protect the service from abuse.
Tokens are free. If you have a license (you could buy one here), use this form to get a token immediately: https://shottr.cc/get_token.html
If you don't have a license and don't want to buy the app, send me an email at [email protected], and I'll reply with a token. I'm dealing with a lot of mail, get ready to wait for a few weeks.
The token is personalized and tied to your email. Every screenshot you upload is tied to your token and email.
Feature Access
The upload is available from the app menu, and with the shortcut Cmd+E (or F2). After you enter the token, the upload button will also appear on the preview thumbnail.
Uploads Management
You will be able to access the previously uploaded screenshots through the Manage Uploads button in the main menu. The button will appear after you upload your first screenshot. You will be able to remove the images on the management page as well.
Image expiration policy
Right now there’s no image expiration policy. It may change if I start feeling monetary pressure. If that happens, I’ll try to give you an advance warning.
Privacy Concerns
Shottr is not a secure image storage! All uploads are considered public. Anybody can access the image if they know (or guess) the right url. Besides, I may take a look at your image myself for the moderation purposes. Please treat this seriously and never upload screenshots with private or sensitive information.
Uploads Availability
I don’t provide any guarantees related to the image storage service. I may take down any image without a warning; an image could get lost in the outer space. All sorts of weird stuff happen in the world every day.
Upload to the other services
Currently Shottr is not integrated with the third-party storage services such as iCloud, Imgur, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. Custom destinations such as FTP, SFTP and S3 are not supported either. I’d love to introduce a third-party integration and get the burden off of my shoulders, but most of the services require bulky SDK and tricky authentication, which holds me back. Besides, I tested public interest, and uploading to custom providers was the least wanted feature.
